The other single-player modes are classic (regular chess with optional randomized piece placement), campaign (two campaigns with 15 missions - chess matches with special rules and starting positions- each), various chess puzzles and a tutorial. The two variants are slasher (the player controls a chess piece directly which can attack, dodge and block, the goal is to break through the enemy army and kill the target) and duel (the fight between two pieces is shown from the side and the player needs to perform quick-time events in order to hurt the enemy). The playing mode most similar to Battle Chess are the Battlegrounds where the success of a move is determined through a mini game (when the attacker loses, the piece is set back to its previous position). It uses the Fritz AI and offers various variations of the chess theme. I havent even played it at standard chess yet, and Ive been playing it all night : D There are a LOT of modes and various puzzles that take hardly any time at all to play s quite cleverly 'pick up and play' for a chess game I think! I wouldnt just ignore this game either just because of the save game thing (I was unaware of this.due to GFWL shutdown is it? Or was just never in the game?) I do reccomend the Shredder though.worth a try at least. Most importantly I find the Ai a swine.though of course this is always pretty subjective.except to real Pros ! I really love the move analyser and a number of other advanced features that other games dont really have or are not quite as welll implemeneted.also a massive moves library. Its become my only Chess game right now.well, apart from Battle Vs for the mooment : D (which I am finding quite fun and interesting.but I am a long standing Chess addict, and so easily pleased with novelty )Īnyway, Shredder allows saving.AND you can play on your PC/Laptop online in a browser (though maybe not with the free version.at least not to have results added to your stats/rating.) Ive been really impressed with 'Shredder' Chess for Android/mobile.there is a free version too I believe.
